Senior Estimator
Winning work starts with an estimate the field can build. You will price complex commercial, institutional, and light industrial projects so bid decisions are clear, scopes are complete, and the team can deliver on time and within budget. This role sits at the front of project success: the number you stand behind becomes the plan operations execute.
Performance Objectives
- Produce complete, competitive estimates that win targeted work at planned margin and hold up through buyout.
- Lead quantity take-offs, scope reviews, and pricing so gaps, overlaps, and risk are identified before bid day.
- Solicit, level, and recommend subcontractor and supplier coverage, documenting assumptions and exclusions the project team can act on.
- Build estimate packages, clarifications, and tender submissions that meet client requirements and internal review standards.
- Transfer a clean handoff to project management—budget, schedule drivers, alternates, and open risks—within the agreed closeout window after award.
- Improve estimate accuracy by comparing final cost to bid and updating unit rates, production factors, and historical data.
- Coach junior estimators so take-offs, quote reviews, and documentation meet the same standard on every pursuit.
Environment & Resources
You will work from the office with the estimating and preconstruction team, partnering with project managers, superintendents, and procurement. You will use current drawings, specifications, historical cost data, Microsoft Office, and estimating tools such as On-Screen Takeoff. You report to the estimating lead and have authority to recommend bid strategy, coverage, and contingency before leadership approves the number. Site visits and pre-bid meetings are part of the work when they change the price.
Essential Qualifications
- Several years estimating commercial, institutional, or light industrial construction, including sole responsibility for complete bids.
- Proven ability to read drawings and specifications and to produce defensible quantity take-offs and scope narratives.
- Track record leveling subcontractor quotes and explaining price, risk, and exclusions to non-estimators.
- Post-secondary education in construction management, quantity surveying, engineering, or equivalent field experience.
- Working command of Excel and estimating software; BIM exposure is an asset, not a substitute for judgment.
- Clear written communication under bid deadlines, with organized files others can pick up.
Role Selling Points
- Full-service building work across commercial, residential, institutional, and light industrial projects, including green building.
- A diversified construction business with real volume, so estimates turn into built work—not shelf studies.
- Industry-leading benefits that support physical, mental, and financial wellbeing, plus training and a path to grow.
- A culture recognized for diversity, admired culture, and inclusion, where adjustments are available throughout hiring.
- Direct influence on which projects the company pursues and how they are set up to succeed.
