What You’ll Do
As the Senior Dam Safety Engineer, you’ll:
- Lead dam safety reviews, inspections, risk assessments, and emergency preparedness planning
- Oversee the design of rehabilitation and safety upgrades for embankment, concrete, and tailings dams
- Conduct advanced engineering analysis, including stability, seepage, seismic, and flood routing
- Plan and execute site inspections and instrumentation programs—analyzing piezometers, inclinometers, seepage systems, etc.
- Prepare regulatory-compliant reports, EPPs, design specs, and submissions to provincial and federal agencies
- Provide oversight during construction and implementation phases, ensuring field work aligns with engineering intent
- Collaborate directly with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to drive projects forward
- Mentor junior engineers, technologists, and EITs to build technical excellence within the team
- Manage project budgets, schedules, scope, and team resourcing
- Participate in proposal development, client engagement, and pursuit of new opportunities in the water infrastructure space
- Represent the firm in regulatory meetings, industry conferences, and technical forums
- Contribute to long-term planning, business strategy, and expansion of the dam safety discipline
What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or Water Resources Engineering (Master’s preferred)

P.Eng. registration in British Columbia or eligible for transfer/registration

10+ years of progressive experience in dam safety, hydrotechnical, or geotechnical engineering
- Strong working knowledge of dam structures (embankment, concrete, tailings) and principles of risk-informed decision-making
- Familiarity with Canadian Dam Association (CDA) guidelines and other regulatory frameworks (e.g., ICOLD)
- Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex projects from assessment through construction
- Proficiency with relevant engineering software: GeoStudio (Slope/W, Seep/W), PLAXIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and others
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for regulatory-facing documentation
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and client relationship skills
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel occasionally for site inspections and regulatory meetings
- Deep commitment to safety, quality assurance, and ethical practice
