Commercial Journeyman Plumber

Our client is looking for a skilled and dedicated Commercial Journeyman Plumber to join their team. They are a well-regarded mechanical contractor who specializes in commercial construction in Calgary.
This role focuses on large-scale commercial builds, tenant improvements, and multi-family projects across the Calgary area. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience
interpreting engineered blueprints, installing heavy-duty commercial piping networks, and leading phases of rough-in and finish work. You will ensure all installations comply strictly with the National Plumbing Code of Canada and local Alberta regulations while maintaining high production and safety standards on site.
Key Responsibilities
● Commercial Installation: Install, alter, and repair large-scale commercial plumbing systems, including domestic water distribution, sanitary drainage, storm systems, and vent piping.
● Blueprint & Schematic Literacy: Read, interpret, and accurately execute layouts from complex mechanical, structural, and architectural blueprints, including detailed isometric drawings.
● Material & Piping Joinery: Work proficiently with diverse commercial materials, including copper (soldering/brazing/ProPress), cast iron (no-hub), PVC, ABS, and carbon steel pipe.
● System Integration: Lay out and install commercial fixtures, backflow prevention devices, booster pumps, and commercial water heating systems.
● HVAC & Hydronics: Assist with the installation of hydronic heating systems, radiant heating, and boiler loops; experience with commercial HVAC systems is considered a strong asset.
● Site Collaboration: Coordinate layout details with site superintendents, sheet metal installers, gasfitters, and electricians to ensure smooth project progression.
● Safety Leadership: Maintain a strict standard of site safety by adhering to Alberta OH&S regulations, utilizing PPE, and participating in daily toolbox talks.
Qualifications & Requirements
● Certification: Valid Alberta Journeyman Plumber Certificate or equivalent provincial trade ticket (Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement is highly preferred).
● Gasfitter Ticket: A valid Gasfitter (Class A or B) endorsement is a significant asset for commercial mechanical projects.
● Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of dedicated experience on commercial construction sites, tenant fit-outs, or industrial projects.
● Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in trade mathematics for calculating precise offsets, pipe slopes, and material take-offs.
● Safety Tickets: Valid CSTS-2020 (Construction Safety Training System) and WHMIS 2015 are required; Aerial Work Platform (AWP) and Fall Protection certificates are highly advantageous.
● Tools & Transport: Must possess a complete set of hand tools appropriate for commercial plumbing and a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with reliable transportation to various job sites.
● Physical Capabilities: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights on scaffolding or scissor lifts, and perform physical labour in varying weather conditions.
