Site Superintendent – Commercial Construction

About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established Halifax-based developer with a growing portfolio of mixed-use and commercial properties across the region. They are seeking a hands-on Site Superintendent to oversee the day-to-day execution of commercial fit-up and renovation projects within their local portfolio.
Working closely with the Project Manager, this role is responsible for coordinating site activities, managing trades and subcontractors, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being actively involved on-site and takes pride in delivering well-executed projects in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily construction activities across multiple commercial fit-up and tenant improvement projects in the Halifax area
- Execute project plans and schedules established by the Project Manager
- Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, trades, vendors, and suppliers on-site
- Monitor project progress to ensure timelines, quality standards, and safety requirements are met
- Identify and resolve day-to-day site issues, escalating major concerns when required
- Lead site meetings, toolbox talks, and subcontractor coordination meetings
- Coordinate deliveries, equipment, materials, and site logistics to maintain efficient workflows
- Maintain site documentation including daily reports, progress updates, and deficiency tracking
- Liaise with tenants, property operations teams, consultants, and inspectors as the on-site representative of the company
- Coordinate site access and scheduling to minimize disruption within occupied buildings
- Ensure job sites remain organized, professional, and compliant with company standards
- Enforce Occupational Health & Safety practices and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
- Report and investigate incidents, deficiencies, or near misses in a timely manner
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in a Site Superintendent or similar construction leadership role
- Experience overseeing commercial construction, tenant fit-ups, or renovation projects
- Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, site coordination, and safety practices
- Ability to independently manage active construction sites and multiple priorities
- Comfortable performing minor carpentry and hands-on site tasks as needed (doors, backing, site touch-ups, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, mobile technology, and construction management/reporting tools
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Trade certification, apprenticeship background, or construction-related diploma considered an asset
