Job Title: Director of CO₂ / Cryogenic Gas System Management

Department: Engineering & Operations

Location: Canton, MI (Fusion Coolant Systems Headquarters)

Travel: Domestic & International Travel Required

Reports To: Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

 

Position Summary:

Fusion Coolant Systems is seeking a highly experienced and technically driven Director of CO₂ / Cryogenic Gas System Management to lead the design, deployment, R&D innovation, and lifecycle reliability of its Pure Cut Supercritical CO₂ delivery systems. This role is responsible for overseeing the full scope of system design decisions, safety protocols, reliability programs, and ongoing field support across Fusion’s growing global customer base.

This position is based full-time in Canton, MI and requires regular travel to customer sites in North America and internationally. The director will serve as the primary technical and strategic contact for all customer engagements related to CO₂ and cryogenic gas infrastructure.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead all R&D and innovation related to CO₂ handling, delivery, pressurization, and cryogenic control systems for Pure Cut.
  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives for continuous improvement in system performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Act as the senior-most technical authority on all CO₂ gas system designs and field implementations.
  • Engineering & System Design
  • Oversee the design, testing, and validation of CO₂ delivery subsystems, pressure regulation assemblies, and safety interlock systems.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering teams to ensure integration of gas systems with CNC machines and Pure Cut infrastructure.
  • Establish standards for component selection, cryo plumbing, sensor technology, and thermal management.
  • Customer Engagement & Field Leadership
  • Serve as the primary technical face of Fusion to all customer stakeholders including manufacturing engineers, facility managers, and EH&S representatives.
  • Lead technical installations, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of deployed systems at customer sites.
  • Translate customer feedback into actionable product and engineering improvements.
  • Service, Safety & Compliance
  • Establish and enforce safety protocols and compliance with OSHA, CGA, and international cryogenic gas standards.
  • Own lifecycle planning and preventive maintenance programs for installed base equipment.
  • Build and manage a high-performance service engineering team to support global installations and post-sale technical support.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Sales, Product, Manufacturing, and Executive teams to support scaling and standardization of the technology.
  • Support cost-reduction initiatives, supplier evaluations, and manufacturing process improvements related to gas systems.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Cryogenics, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in CO₂, cryogenic gas, or high-pressure gas system design and service
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in R&D, field service, and system reliability engineering
  • Strong understanding of CO₂ phase behavior, fluid dynamics, and supercritical systems
  • Familiarity with safety standards such as CGA, NFPA, and OSHA related to compressed gases and cryogenics
  • Proven ability to manage customer relationships, lead technical discussions, and drive field success
  • Ability and willingness to travel 30–50% domestically and internationally

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with supercritical CO₂ systems in manufacturing, medical, aerospace, or semiconductor environments
  • Hands-on experience with CNC machinery and integration of gas delivery systems into machine tools
  • Experience scaling technology from prototype to commercial deployment
  • Certifications in gas handling or pressure vessel safety (preferred but not required)
