Overhead Crane Technician (Journeyman)
Job Summary
Our client, a leader in lifting, rigging, and overhead crane services across Canada, is seeking a Journeyman Crane Technician to join their team. Reporting to the Service Manager, this role is responsible for inspections, certifications, maintenance, and repairs of cranes and related lifting equipment. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical and electrical expertise, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections, certifications, and servicing of overhead cranes and lifting equipment.
- Interpret and apply electrical drawings, schematics, and code specifications to ensure proper equipment function.
- Perform electrical and mechanical maintenance, including motors, control systems, gearboxes, wheels, and load ropes.
- Diagnose, assess, and repair lifting systems, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Complete detailed service reports, inspection paperwork, and customer logs.
- Approve and sign off on inspections, certifications, and repair work.
- Conduct functionality testing to confirm safe operation after repairs.
- Perform lubrication, adjustments, and preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Ensure vehicles, tools, and equipment are properly maintained and inspected.
- Follow all company and client safety regulations, including reporting incidents, near misses, or equipment damage.
- Participate in quality assurance programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements
- Journeyman Electrical, Heavy Equipment Technician, or Industrial Millwright certification preferred.
- 10,000+ hours of crane servicing or related experience.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- OSSA Fall Protection, First Aid, H2S Alive, and Fit Testing (or willingness to obtain).
- Comfortable working at heights up to 125 feet.
- Proficient in written and verbal English communication.
Working Conditions
- Full-time position, hours vary based on project demands (evenings and weekends may be required).
- On-call availability as needed.
- Travel required, including overnight stays.
- Safety-sensitive role: pre-employment and site-required alcohol and drug testing may apply.
