The Opportunity

Reporting to senior leadership, the Chief Estimator will lead all aspects of the preconstruction and estimating function, from early-stage concept through to tender and project handoff.

You’ll be responsible for driving winning strategies, managing a high-performing estimating team, and building strong relationships with clients, consultants, and trade partners. This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring deep technical expertise and strong business acumen.


What You’ll Be Responsible For:


Preconstruction Leadership

  • Lead estimating strategies to align with project goals for cost, schedule, and profitability
  • Collaborate with leadership and business development teams to pursue and secure new opportunities
  • Develop conceptual budgets, cost plans, and value engineering strategies
  • Oversee preparation of all estimates, proposals, and bid submissions
  • Ensure constructability, procurement strategy, and risk mitigation are embedded early
  • Guide tendering processes, subcontractor engagement, and contract award


Project & Financial Oversight

  • Support project teams with accurate cost data, forecasting, and Work Breakdown Structures
  • Participate in WIP reviews, cost tracking, and financial performance monitoring
  • Ensure estimates align with project execution and profitability targets
  • Analyze variances between estimated and actual costs to improve future performance


Post-Project & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead post-project reviews, lessons learned, and estimate reconciliation
  • Continuously refine estimating processes, tools, and standards
  • Implement best practices to improve accuracy, efficiency, and competitiveness


Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and grow the estimating team
  • Recruit and develop top talent within the preconstruction group
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance
  • Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and career development support


Client & Industry Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and trade partners
  • Contribute to proposal strategy, presentations, and client engagement
  • Represent the company in industry settings and help position them for future work


What We’re Looking For

  • 10–15+ years of estimating experience with a mid-to-large general contractor
  • Proven leadership experience managing estimating teams and large pursuits
  • Strong background in ICI projects ($50M+) across various delivery models (CM, Design-Build, Lump Sum, P3, IPD)
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or related field (PQS, CET, or P.Eng. is an asset)
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating software (InEight, On-Screen Takeoff, etc.)
  • Strong financial acumen, analytical capability, and risk assessment skills
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities
  • High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to influence outcomes and drive results
